Processing colour pictures for "Memories" web-pages.
And making the pages.

Open a recent "Memories" page from the folder: scsmath.com/bulletin/memories

• Note the layout.
• Select pictures for the theme of the new Memories page, and how they'll be positioned.

Open Photoshop. The following is true at least for Photoshop 3 and version 4:

• Put selected pictures in a folder. Duplicate the folder so as to have a backup.
• Open the selected pictures. Then one by one:
• Crop to essential part of picture. The final image then needs to be reduced to (for landscape orientation) 247 by 185 pixels, 72 dpi.
• Cropping: Either adjust the height OR width, ensuring "Proportions" is highlighted (Image/Image Size...).
  Then crop the other dimension appropriately.
• Then sharpen. (Filter/Sharpen/Sharpen)
• Save As... jpg file, Low quality, or "33" quality, WITHOUT saving any preview, thumbnail, or icon. Use a name using lowercase letters, numbers and underscore only. No spaces, no '&' signs, or anything else.

N.B. FOR PORTRAIT ORIENTATION pictures: make the height 247, the width in this case isn't so critical, but approx. 185, though at least not more than 247.

N.B. Two pictures side by side should both be landscape, or both portrait, orientation, otherwise it looks lousy.

Make a new folder with appropriate name (lower case letters, etc.) in the memories folder. Copy the final pictures here.

MAKE THE MEMORIES WEB PAGE by opening a recent memories page, then Save As... a file with appropriate name (lowercase letters, etc.). Then simply import the pictures and adjust all titles, captions, wording and links appropriately.

CAREFUL:

• Will need to click on each picture then align centrally. Also, be consistent: either all pictures to have a border, or none.
• Don't forget to adjust the actual *title* of the file, displayed in the "title" bar of browsers.
• Finally adjust all appropriate links TO this file. At least (and may be to be other relevant places too):
  scsmath.com/new.html
  scsmath.com/bulletin/memories.html
• And CHECK everything works and is worded properly before uploading. Look at the page in different browsers.
